Let's look at this Sword Sharpening Rock. It is said that Wen Tianxiang once ground his sword here. In the late Song Dynasty, Wen Tianxiang was appointed by the imperial court to hold a memorial ceremony for his friend Wang Yue in Xinchang. While he was walking along the valley where Wang Yue used to visit, he thought of that the country had been disintegrated. Therefore, his grief and indignation drove him to grind the sword as if steeling his own will. At that time, people worshiped this national hero and gradually spread the legend locally. While constructing this scenic spot in 1998, the tourism department combined the real historical figure with local people's legends and stories to name it as “Sword Sharpening Rock of Wen Tianxiang”. Please look at this flat stone next to it. It is inscribed with Wen Tianxiang's verse “Passing by Lindingyang”, “Let my heart remain true to shine in the annals”, which is completely integrated with “Sword Sharpening Rock of Wen Tianxiang”. It fully reflects Wen Tianxiang’s national integrity and his view of life and death as “life for justice”. Telling the patriotic stories spread by the local people and passing the positive energy has inspired the future generations to fight for the just cause for their whole lives.
